Monumental Berlin

Geifswalder Straße, Prenzlauer Berg (near the corner of Danziger Straße).

These colossal things always surprise me when I've haven't thought about the history of Berlin for a while. I used to live in P'berg and never saw this before last week!

  2. Goolge tells me that the whole park is called Ernst-Thälmann-park and the statue is a memorial to Ernst Thälmann. He was the leader of the pre-war German Communist Party and the likely leader of the DDR if he hadn't been killed whilst in a concentration camp in 1944.
